Truancy Court
Two truancy courts are held in the communities of Sierra Vista and Douglas through the collaborative effort of a team of school administrators, court and probation administration, Community Advisory Board, law enforcement, and representation from the County Attorney’s Office. Each court provides services to diversion eligible middle school-age youth and their families, and operates in a similar manner as drug court. The juvenile and parent/guardian meet each week with a volunteer Judge from the community, a school administrator, the assigned probation officer, and if applicable, school resource officer and mental health coordinator to address both truancy and other issues that place the juvenile at risk.
