Board of Supervisors Appoints New Clerk of the Board

The Cochise County Board of Supervisors has appointed Tim Mattix to serve as the new Clerk of the Board of Supervisors. The appointment was formalized during a Regular Board Meeting on March 22, 2022.

Tim Mattix, a Hereford resident, has served as Interim Clerk of the Board since February this year. As Interim Clerk, he has successfully managed the administration and operations of Board agenda items, minutes, resolutions, ordinances, and other duties.

“The position was open to all applicants,” says Cochise County Administrator Richard Karwaczka. “Tim has 19 years of governmental experience working for municipalities as a Clerk function and I’ve been nothing but impressed with Mr. Mattix and his capabilities of being Clerk of the Board.”

A Certified Municipal Clerk and Election Officer, Tim Mattix has served as Cochise County Deputy Clerk of the Board since November 2020. Prior to his role at the county, he served as Town Clerk for the Town of Dewey-Humboldt in Yavapai County.

“Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to study and learn best practices in areas such as agenda and records management with a focus on leveraging technology to improve efficiencies,” says Clerk of the Board Tim Mattix. “I’m excited to work towards implementing best practices to enhance Clerk of the Board operations and services for the benefit of our county.” 

The Clerk of the Board of Supervisors is a county officer with functions and duties outlined in Arizona State Statute. The Clerk has various statutory responsibilities related to Board actions including, the preparation and preservation of Board of Supervisors meetings, agendas, and minutes for the county’s permanent record, management of documents received and generated by the Board of Supervisors, and also serves as the Special Districts Coordinator.
