Appointment is valid through June 30, 2023, and subject to renewal every twelve months. The rate for position is $50.2730 per hour. The position is part-time, 30 hours per week, and may include weekends and holidays. Position does not have any benefits other than participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) and accrued sick leave.
The primary responsibility of the Sierra Vista Justice Court Pro Tempore is to process and adjudicate civil cases, including small claims and civil lawsuits, protective orders, evictions, civil traffic, and City and County ordinances. The Pro Tempore will occasionally preside over criminal proceedings, including initial appearances, arraignments, pre-trial conferences, trials, and preliminary hearings. To serve as the Part-Time Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore for the Sierra Vista Justice Court, you must be an attorney in good standing and duly licensed to practice law in the State of Arizona. Preference may also be given to applicants who reside in the JP5 precinct.

The Committee will review the applications, interview selected applicants and recommend candidates to the Presiding Judge, Timothy Dickerson, who will select one or more applicants. Appointees are subject to the approval of the Cochise County Board of Supervisors.
