The Superior Court, Cochise County, announces that a Justice Court Judge Pro Tempore Selection Committee has been established and is accepting applications for the position of Part-time Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore for Cochise County. Appointment is valid through June 30, 2024, and subject to renewal every twelve months. The hourly rate for position is $51.4688 per hour. Hours for this position are limited in nature and are primarily on weekends and holidays. Appointees may be required to work at any Justice Court facility within Cochise County.
To serve as Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore you must be over the age of 18, be a qualified elector and resident of the state of Arizona for not less than one year; and read and write the English language. Preference may be given to graduates of an accredited law school or to individuals with at least five years substantial working experience in the criminal or civil justice system. Typical duties may include: Conducting initial appearances pursuant to Criminal Rule of Procedure 4.2, Conduct protective order hearings pursuant to Rules of Protective Order Procedure; Review requests for search warrants, and Conduct other civil or criminal hearings which, due to time limits, cannot be postponed until the Elected Justice of the Peace’s return which could included evictions and preliminary hearings.
Applications are available at Cochise County Judicial Human Resources, 4 Ledge Avenue, 2nd Floor, Bisbee, AZ or at the Cochise County Website, www.cochise.az.gov. Applications must be submitted to the Judicial Human Resources Director no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023.
The Committee will review the applications, interview selected applicants and recommend candidates to the Presiding Judge, Timothy Dickerson, who will select one or more applicants. Appointees are subject to the approval of the Cochise County Board of Supervisors.
