BOS Approve Expansion of Mental Health Services to Reduce Recidivism; Regular Board Meeting 11/16

BOS meeting

During Tuesday's Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved two significant contracts aimed to help improve mental and behavioral health among County jail inmates as well as those who are released from jail.

The approved contract between Cochise Health & Social Services and Hope Inc. will provide re-entry support services to individuals who are released from the County jail system and experience psychiatric and/or co-occurring challenges.

The peer navigation and transportation services provided by the program will help these individuals in understanding the system processes, navigating social support systems, and effectively accessing support and resources to sustain their recovery and avoid recidivism. This initiative is grant-funded by the Arizona Department of Health Services.

In another effort to expand access to mental health services, the approved contract between Cochise County and Community Bridges, Inc. will implement new psychiatric services at the Cochise County Adult Detention Center. This new program, primarily offered as a virtual telehealth service, will increase mental health assistance given to in-custody individuals, promote suicide prevention and awareness, enhance and support the current community re-entry services, and improve the overall mental health care within the Cochise County Detention Facility.

Additional items approved by the Board include:

  • Approval to move forward with the acquisition of right-of-way of Moson Road for future improvements.
  • Approval of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Grant given to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office for one fully equipped police vehicle, designated for DUI and driver enforcement.
  • Approval to move forward with the abandonment of the recorded subdivision plat, Walnut Valley Ranch Subdivision.
